Charity for Homeless Women Launches First Capital Campaign

Acres of Diamonds, a historically low profile shelter for homeless women and their children, will launch its first capital campaign to expand their current low-income apartments.

Greater Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) August 17, 2006

Acres of Diamonds, a historically low profile shelter for homeless women and their children, will launch its first capital campaign to expand their current low-income apartments.

“The $500,000 capital campaign, beginning in mid-September, doubles the Acres of Diamonds apartments from four units to seven furnished units, so the children will have a room separate from their mom,” says Arne Nelson, Board Treasurer and technology veteran with Adaptive Strategy consulting.

Founded in 1995 by Pearl Tadema and five women friends from church, the Acres of Diamond’s main transitional house provides shelter to nine homeless women and up to five children each. The resident families participate in a highly successful 14 Step Program that equips the homeless women for independence and moving to an apartment of their own in cooperation with other service agencies.

“Here at Acres of Diamonds, our women overcome huge financial and abusive obstacles,” states Laura Wandoishima, Executive Director. “God is graduating so many women from our main house, we are completely out of room in our apartments! Our first ever capital campaign now gives us the opportunity to expand in order to serve more women and their children.”
