Dr. Russell F. Warren, Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus at Hospital for Special Surgery Joins KFx Medical Corporation Scientific Advisory Board

KFx Medical Corporation (www.kfxmed.com), a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair announced today that Dr. Russell F. Warren, Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC has joined the KFx Scientific Advisory Board.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) August 16, 2006 -- KFx Medical Corporation (www.kfxmed.com), a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair announced today that Dr. Russell F. Warren, Surgeon-in-Chief Emeritus at Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC has joined the KFx Scientific Advisory Board.

Dr. Warren is the former Surgeon-in-Chief of the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in Manhattan and Professor of Orthopedics at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He is currently the Team Physician for the New York Giants and a member of the Board of Trustees for the National Football Foundation.

Dr. Warren obtained his medical degree from the State University of New York Medical School in Syracuse. He then completed his internship and residency at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York. Dr. Warren continued his orthopaedic training with a residency in Orthopaedics at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and a fellowship at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.

He is the past President of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has published over 250 scientific articles and is Editor-in-Chief of the publication Techniques in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.

Dr. Joseph C. Tauro, Chairman of the KFx Scientific Advisory Board and in private practice at Ocean County Sports Medicine in Toms River, NJ and Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New Jersey Medical School said, “Dr Warren is one of the most respected and recognized leaders in the field of shoulder surgery. He has published many of the landmark articles that I use every day in teaching my students. We are very pleased to have him on our team.” Dr. Tauro chairs the scientific board that includes Drs. Christopher Behr, Eric Carson, Gregory Fanelli, Matt France, Brad Giannotti, and Jon ‘JP’ Warner.

“KFx’s unique double row SutureCross™ system is a home run not only for full rotator cuff tears but for partial tears as well,” said Dr. Warren. “Previously, we’ve not had a system that provided the flexibility and options necessary to treat varying patients’ demands.”

Over four million people seek medical advice for shoulder pain every year; torn rotator cuffs alone account for more than 500,000 surgeries annually and have traditionally required many weeks of rehabilitation. Traditional minimally invasive techniques, although promising - patients typically experience less pain and regain full range of motion more quickly - require surgeons to have advanced videoscopic skills. In contrast, KFx provides simple systems for surgeons while ensuring more anatomical repair for the patient, yielding better clinical outcomes.
