Phenoms of the 21st century -- ‘Googling’ as a verb, Reality-TV and Print-on-Demand Publishing -- come home to roost in Oregon artist Laura Domela’s independently published photo book of reality-tv star Storm Large.
“Storm Large – photographs by Laura Domela” (http://www.lulu.com/domela) is a selection of photos from a session with Storm Large in July 2005.
The book’s success is all the sweeter since Domela decided to publish the book herself, using Lulu.com’s Print-on-Demand technology.
“I wanted to publish this book independently because that mirrors my philosophy. I use an all digital process so that I can control every aspect of my photography from image capture through processing and to the final print. Self-publishing with Lulu enables me to continue that level of control all the way to a published book,” said Domela. “’Storm Large’ was the third book I’ve published using Lulu, and I’ve been very pleased with the response.”
“My motivation for photographing Storm came from watching her perform onstage. Beyond her incredible vocal talent, her musicality, and her obvious physical beauty, she is a passionate artist who visually exudes an enormous power and range of emotion. I was inspired to capture this emotion and passion photographically,” added Domela.
