Danforth Pewterers Combine Artist Workspace and Retail Store into Unique, Hands-On Workshop Store; Grand Opening September 16-17

Vermont's-own Danforth Pewter opens its flagship destination Workshop Store in Middlebury, Vermont. Grand opening to take place September 16-17 with all day pewtersmith demonstrations, food and entertainment. Governor Jim Douglas will officially cut the ribbon at Noon on Saturday, September 16.

Middlebury, VT (PRWEB) August 19, 2006 -– Danforth Pewterers of Middlebury celebrates the opening of its brand new Danforth Pewterers Workshop Store at its Seymour Street location with a Grand Opening gala the weekend of September 16-17. All are invited for a fun-filled event featuring food and drinks, entertainment and live pewter spinning demonstrations throughout the days. Governor Jim Douglas will officially cut the ribbon at Noon on Saturday, September 16.

The new flagship store will showcase the fine, traditional art of pewtermaking, in addition to giving visitors a glimpse into the history of pewtermaking in America. Guests will also have the opportunity to use the tools of the trade to try pewtermaking first hand.

“Fred and I have been designing and creating pewter wares for
more than 3 decades and still to this day we’re fascinated by the process,” says Judi Danforth, who with husband Fred founded Danforth Pewterers in 1975. “It took us only 30 years to realize that this unique process might also appeal to our customers, friends and visitors. Thus the Workshop Store was born.”

The Danforths, direct descendants of the 18th century New England Danforth pewtersmiths, took a traditional art form and tailored it to meet 20th and 21st century lifestyles and tastes. The line consists of hand-made holloware vessels, including pewter bowls, plates and vases, and an original cast line, with jewelry, frames, ornaments and other items artistically created using hand-worked molds.

The new Middlebury Workshop Store will also serve as Danforth Pewterers headquarters, with other retail locations including Burlington, Vermont’s Church Street and Manchester, Vermont. The Danforth line is also sold in fine galleries and shops throughout the U.S. and abroad, via a mail order catalog and online at their Web site.

“This is a traditional art form that many people know little about,” adds Fred Danforth. “We want to share our passion for these elegant techniques as well as provide a historical context so our customers and visitors get a true appreciation for the art of pewtermaking.”
