Amelia Island, FL (PRWEB) August 24, 2006 -- The Amelia Book Island Festival coming up Oct. 5-8 on Amelia Island, Florida, will feature more than 35 exciting authors. All of the authors will take part in talks and book signings at the Saturday, Oct. 7, “Readers’ Day,” a full-day celebration with free admission.

Among those spotlighted this year are:
     • Southern novelist Cassandra King, featured at a new Thursday, Oct. 5, “Southern Nights” evening gala at The Ribault Club, Fort George Island.
     • Donna Woolfolk Cross, historical novelist, speaking at the Luncheon with Authors, Saturday, Oct. 7.
     • Brad Thor and Steve Berry, suspense thriller authors, who will present a dual-podium conversation on the Luncheon program.

Cassandra King’s latest title, The Same Sweet Girls, was a national number-one Book Sense choice and a Book-of-the Month Club and Literary Guild selection Now working on her fourth book, King resides in the Lowcountry of South Carolina with her husband, The Prince of Tides author Pat Conroy. www.cassandrakingconroy.com.

Donna Woolfolk Cross is the author of Pope Joan, an international best-seller, a discussion group favorite and soon to be a major motion picture. The saga is based on the story of one of the most extraordinary women in Western history--a controversial figure who, disguised as a man, rose to rule Christianity in the 9th century as the first and only woman to sit on the throne of St. Peter. Cross lives in upstate New York, where she is at work on a novel set in 17th century France. www.popejoan.com.

Brad Thor, the New York Times bestselling author of five suspense thrillers, has been called “as current as tomorrow’s headlines.” In his latest novel, Takedown, New York City is once again under attack and nearly immobilized: in less than six hours, the enemies of America may just pull off the unthinkable. Thor has served as a member of the Department of Homeland Security’s Analytic Red Cell Program and has appeared on FOX News Channel, CNN, and all major networks as a National Security Expert to discuss terrorism, as well as how closely his novels of international intrigue parallel the real threats facing the world today. www.bradthor.com

Steve Berry has had four top-selling thrillers. His newest, The Templar Legacy, concerns a medieval order, a modern conspiracy and the chase to discover if an incredible secret really exists. Spending eight weeks on the New York Times Top 10 list, the book also climbed into the top 10 for USA Today, Publisher's Weekly, and Book Sense. An attorney in coastal Georgia, Berry is an international bestseller, with his books published in 35 languages in 38 countries. www.steveberry.org.

These authors and more than 30 others will meet and mingle with readers in four days of events at a variety of venues, from historic sites to coffee houses and pubs.

Ticket information, the full list of authors and schedule of events are posted at Amelia Book Island Festival. For more information, call the festival line at 904-491-8176.
