AT&T U-verse TV to Include Current TV

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Current TV, LLC today announced a distribution agreement to deliver Current TV as part of the AT&T U-verse TV(SM) channel lineup.

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) August 24, 2006 —- AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and Current TV, LLC today announced a distribution agreement to deliver Current TV as part of the AT&T U-verse TV(SM) channel lineup.

Under the agreement, AT&T U-verse TV customers will have access to Current TV programming, including its unique viewer created content (VC2), which allows its audience to help create the TV they want to watch. Current TV, targeting 18- to 34-year-old viewers, features short-form, nonfiction content on a range of topics relevant to a young adult audience. Approximately one-third of its lineup is VC2, which is submitted and voted on by viewers through the network’s Web site, www.current.tv. Current’s innovative approach brings the collaborative environment of the Internet to television.

“Current TV’s participatory programming model is a natural fit for the AT&T U-verse TV channel lineup,” said Dan York, head of programming of AT&T Operations, Inc. “We are providing U-verse customers with a more personalized viewing experience, delivering a wide selection of programming that speaks to customers’ diverse interests.”

“Current and AT&T share a common goal — to transform the television medium and create a new television experience for viewers,” said Mark Goldman, chief operating officer of Current. “We are excited to join with AT&T to deliver our viewer-created content, and all of our unique and original programming, to a wider audience and to enhance the viewing and participation experience for AT&T U-verse customers.”

AT&T U-verse TV is delivered by Project Lightspeed, the company’s initiative to expand the fiber-optics network deeper into neighborhoods to deliver U-verse TV, AT&T Yahoo!® High Speed Internet U-verse Enabled and, in the future, Voice over IP services. Through its subsidiaries, AT&T expects to reach nearly 19 million households by the end of 2008 as part of its initial deployment, using fiber-to-the-node (FTTN) and fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) technologies.

Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
