eHomeCooking.com – The Dirty Truth on Eating Prepared Meals

Consumers can take more control of their diets by preparing meals at home, and following lower fat recipes. Recently, www.eHomeCooking.com launched an online web site with over 40,000 free home cooking recipes. Nutritional information is also available on over 8,000 foods.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (PRWEB) August 25, 2006 -- While eating out is good for the nation's economy, it often isn't good for a consumer's waistline and overall health. When eating restaurant and commercially prepared meals, consumers have less control over their nutritional content than they do when they cook at home. Restaurants typically add more fats and salt to their recipes than a home cook would. Moreover, restaurant meal portions are often oversized—indeed, supersized—especially at fast food restaurants.

Consumers can take more control of their diets by preparing meals at home, and following lower fat recipes. Recently, www.eHomeCooking.com launched an online web site with over 40,000 free home cooking recipes. Nutritional information is also available on over 8,000 foods. Many articles on cooking, cuisine, and beverages are also available. The site even provides healthy recipes for your pet dog or cat. Recipes can be printed, or sent to any valid email address.

Should you decide to eat out, instead of preparing a home cooked meal, here are some tips on eating healthier:

Share an appetizer or dessert instead of eating the entire serving.

Order salad dressings and sauces on the side, this will allow you to control how much is added. Also, look for low fat salad dressings and mayonnaise.

When ordering soups, look for soups are not cream based. Cream based soups are usually higher in fat.

When ordering pasta dishes look for sauces that are tomato based, instead of cream based—tomato based sauces are usually lower in fat.

Consider ordering foods that are baked, such as fish or chicken, instead of fried.
