San Antonio is the site of the JMFA Leadership Conference 2006, a by-invitation event for bankers and credit union executives, Oct. 8-10 and Oct. 11-13, respectively. Mike Schenk, VP-Economics & Statistics for CUNA, will examine the weak job market, rising interest rates, bankruptcies and the housing bubble in “The Economy and Credit Union Finance.” Schenk, with more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, has been staff liaison to CUNA’s Small Credit Union Committee since 2001. He also serves on the board of a $300 million credit union.

Dick Ensweiler, President and CEO of the Texas Credit Union League, will address “Credit Unions on the Move.” The immediate past Chairman of CUNA, Ensweiler is a vocal, high-profile proponent of the credit-union movement. He will review recent legislative challenges and the importance of political involvement. He has been a field consultant for the Michigan Credit Union League, President of both the Minnesota and Illinois Credit Union Leagues and a Senior Vice President at CUNA Mutual Group.

Additionally, both sessions will hear from Roger Rassman, a brand and loyalty management expert, who will speak on “Branded for Success,” and Oliver Ireland, a Partner in Morrison & Foerster, LLP, Financial Services Practice Group, in Washington, DC, who will cover “Regulatory Challenges in the Financial Services Industry.”

Rassman is a former VP-Marketing for one of the nation’s largest and most successful financial institutions, based in Rochester, NY. Ireland’s practice focuses primarily on retail financial services including electronic commerce, compliance with Federal Reserve regulations, including Regulations Z and E, compliance with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act privacy provisions, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, E-SIGN, the U.S. Patriot Act and telemarketing rules. Oliver also chairs the American Bar Association’s Deposit Accounts Subcommittee.
