Award-Winning Writer/Actor Rick Najera Brings New Comedy "Sweet 15 – Quinceañera" To San Diego Repertory Theatre

Najera, creator and writer of Broadway's LATINOLOGUES, and one of the nation's most influential Latinos, brings his fourth stage play to San Diego REP; Tickets now on sale

SAN DIEGO, CA (PRWEB) August 28, 2006 -- Rick Najera's new comedy, Sweet 15 - Quinceañera, has been commissioned by San Diego REPertory Theatre and will be presented as a workshop run November 3-12, 2006. This will mark the fourth stage play at the REP for Najera, an award-winning writer (MAD TV, In Living Color), creator of 'Latinologues on Broadway' and Hispanic Business Magazine's '100 Most Influential'. Sweet 15 - Quinceañera was created and written by San Diego native Rick Najera and will be directed by Sam Woodhouse, the REP's Artistic Director.

"I am thrilled that San Diego REP once again has the opportunity to partner with Najera, one of the nation's most imaginative writers of comedy," says Woodhouse. "We are especially pleased to begin work with Rick on the latest project supported by San Diego REP's Calafia Initiative, our long term effort to make new works of theatre that speak to the present and future of our binational region."

Sweet 15- Quinceañera is an interactive comedy set in National City, California based on a Latino family whose patriarch has just returned home from a 10-year unexplained absence that began the day his daughter turned 15. He vows to put his family financially back on their feet, under one condition, that he gives his daughter (now 25) the quinceañera (sweet 15 birthday party) she really deserves. The performance will jump with music, dance, drama, taffeta dresses and surprise appearances by the famous and infamous.

Najera is an award-winning writer-actor-director-producer, with writing credits on hit comedies such as MAD TV and In Living Color and most known for his hit comedy, Latinologues, which he wrote and recently starred in on Broadway in New York City at the legendary Helen Hayes Theatre. Previous stage plays commissioned by San Diego REP include Najera's 'A Quiet Love', 'Latins Anonymous' and 'Latinologues.'

Rick Najera's 'Sweet 15 - Quinceañera' will be performed for a limited time only November 3-12, 2006 at San Diego REPertory Theatre (79 Horton Plaza, downtown San Diego). Tickets are now available at the REP's Box Office, 619-544-1000, or online at www.sandiegorep.com. For more information on Rick Najera, visit www.ricknajera.com.
