Making Paperless Happen: How to Ensure Compliance with GPEA, E-Gov, OMB, and E-SIGN Requirements

Silanis Technology, the U.S. government's largest supplier of electronic signatures, today announced that it will host a special web seminar on September 12 to address the growing concern of government agencies to meet its long-overdue paperless mandate, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards and regulations.

Montreal, QC (PRWEB) August 28, 2006 -- Silanis Technology, the U.S. government's largest supplier of electronic signatures, today announced that it will host a special web seminar on September 12 to address the growing concern of government agencies to meet its long-overdue paperless mandate, and ensure compliance with applicable laws, standards and regulations.

"While millions of dollars have been spent on PKI, digital signatures, and other related security technologies in an effort to keep government processes electronic, the majority of agencies still fall to paper each time a signature is required in a document," says Michael Laurie, vice-president and co-founder of Silanis Technology.

Government agencies need to be aware that laws, standards, and regulations dictate how those processes must be carried out. Understanding what is required to support them in an electronic environment is key to embarking on a paperless initiative.
The reason, explains Laurie, is a failure to fully understand the purpose of a signature and the processes used in the pen and paper world to ensure compliant business records, and what technologies can replicate the same force and effect in the electronic world.

"Signing is only one part of an entire stream of activities that take place before and after a typical business approval process," adds Laurie. "Government agencies need to be aware that laws, standards, and regulations dictate how those processes must be carried out. Understanding what is required to support them in an electronic environment is key to embarking on a paperless initiative."

During the web seminar, Mr. Laurie will review the laws, standards, and policies related to the use of electronic signatures in U.S. government documents, including GPEA, e-Gov, OMB and E-SIGN. He will also answer many frequently asked questions, such as:

  • What laws and regulations apply to my Agency?
  • What criteria should I use to evaluate an electronic signature solution to ensure that it meets compliance requirements?
  • Have electronic signatures ever been challenged in court?
  • What is the best method for authenticating users over the web?

Seminar participants will leave the presentation with a solid overview of how to assess their specific process automation requirements, as well as the ideal strategy for evaluating and deploying a solution within their agency.
