Admiral B. R. Inman, USN, (Ret.) to Address Austin Technology Council’s Power Lunch on September 6
Admiral Inman to speak to Austin Technology Council members and guests about global political, military and economic challenges and opportunities facing the United States today.
(PRWEB) August 28, 2006 -- Admiral B.R. Inman, USN (Ret.), will address Austin Technology Council members and guests at their Power Lunch, to be held September 6, 2006 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Hotel in Austin. Admiral Inman will discuss the global political, military and economic challenges and opportunities facing the United States today.
Deemed "one of the smartest people ever to come out of Washington or anywhere," and "a superstar in the intelligence community and a tough-minded administrator," Admiral Inman will outline how globalization has exposed the United States to new opportunities and challenges and changed the way old challenges touch our interests and values, as well as our nation’s efforts to reform existing institutions and create new ones -- including forging new partnerships between governmental and nongovernmental actors, and transnational and international organizations.
Admiral Inman was the first Naval Intelligence Specialist to attain four-star rank. His Naval career began in 1951 when he entered the Naval Reserve and was then commissioned as an ensign in 1952. For nearly 20 years thereafter, he served on an aircraft carrier, two cruisers, and a destroyer, as well as in numerous assignments ashore in Naval Intelligence. He graduated from the National War College in 1972, was selected for promotion to Rear Admiral in 1974, and promoted to Vice Admiral in 1976, and, finally, to Admiral in 1981. Between 1974 and 1982, Admiral Inman served in tours as Director of Naval Intelligence; Vice Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency; Director of the National Security Agency; and Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. He retired with the permanent rank of Admiral on July 1, 1982.
Since his retirement, he has served as Chairman and CEO of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation; Chairman, President, and CEO of Westmark Systems, Inc.; and Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Presently, he serves on several corporate and academic boards and holds the Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial Chair in National Policy at the LBJ School of Public Affairs of the University of Texas at Austin. His primary business activity is investing in start-up technology companies.
“We are pleased and honored to have Admiral Inman participate in our September 6 Power Lunch,” stated Alisha Ring, President, Austin Technology Council. “The goal for our Power Lunches is to provide world-class expertise with a vast knowledge base. With his reputation for incisive analysis, solid leadership, and dedication to our nation's security, Admiral Inman certainly fits that bill. He is a true inspiration.”
Price of admission to the ATC Power Lunch is $45 for ATC members; $55 for non-members. To reserve space for this event, send an email to Austin Technology Council.
