California: Sanitec Microwave Medical Waste Disinfection System Eliminates Need to Transport Pathological Waste to Out of State Incinerators

The California Dept. of Health has approved the use of an environmentally friendly, cost effective system to safely dispose of pathology waste from medical procedures. The Sanitec microwave medical waste disinfection system is currently in use by over 1,000 healthcare facilities.

Sun Valley, CA (PRWEB) August 28, 2006 -- Sanitec Industries, Inc. (www.sanitecindustries.com) announced today that the California Department of Health has approved its patented zero-emission Microwave Healthcare Waste Disinfection System™ for processing pathological waste. Currently, California requires pathological waste from medical procedures to be trucked out of state for processing.

“We are excited about our expanded relationship with California and look forward to working with them to reduce the environmental impact of transporting and disposing of pathological waste and reducing overall healthcare costs,” said Jim Harkess, President of Sun Valley, CA-based Sanitec Industries, Inc. “Using Sanitec’s emission-free healthcare waste disinfection system to process pathological waste in addition to other medical waste will mean hundreds of bio-waste laden trucks off our roads and lower disposal costs for California’s healthcare providers,” Harkess said.

Unlike incineration and autoclaves, which merely transform biohazard material into other dangerous waste products including dioxin, Sanitec™ systems are self-contained disposal units that utilize a patented microwave disinfection system that eliminates bacterial and viral pathogens. Most other disposal processes involve transporting highly pathogenic medical waste on public roads to off-site processing facilities.

“California’s approval of the Sanitec system for the processing of pathological waste is a progressive decision in a day of limited options for generators of pathological waste. Incineration of this waste no longer has to be the only solution," according to Ed Krisiunas, a medical waste disposal expert and President of WNWN International.
US EPA and California Department of Health recently endorsed Sanitec for the disposal of bird carcasses in the event of an Avian Flu outbreak.
