The Black Rose Awards honor those who have benefitted African-Americans in the San Bernardino area. Carl Dameron of Dameron Communications and Kathyn Ervin of California State University, San Bernardino will host the Sept. 22 ceremony at the National Orange Show Valencia Room.
San Bernardino, CA (PRWEB) September 3, 2006 -- Carl Dameron and Katherine Ervin will emcee the 17th Annual Black Rose and Humanitarian of the Year Awards, a September 22 ceremony at the National Orange Show - Valencia Room honoring those who have worked tirelessly in the community.
Both emcees agree the Black Rose Awards are an important ceremony in San Bernardino.
The San Bernardino Black Culture Foundation presents the Black Rose Awards to honor lifetime achievement. Anyone who has done good things for the local community would be given consideration for this recognition.
“These are our unsung heroes, people of all diversities who have contributed a great deal to the community” said Margaret Hill, a member and advisor of the Black Culture Foundation. “We have been presenting this honor for 17 years now.”
There are two categories of awards given, at the ceremony - the Black Rose and the Humanitarian of the Year.
“The Black Rose Awards are one of the most important community events,” said Ervin, a theater arts professor at California State University, San Bernardino. “It is especially important this year, given some of the unfortunate events that have happened here.”
Ervin refers to a wave of crime involving African-Americans. She’s proud to instead help showcase the good things people are doing in and for the community.
“It’s important for our young people to see role models,” she said. “And it’s important for the rest of us to be reminded of the good things people here are doing.”
Past recipients include People’s Choice, Inc., developer John Dukes of Dukes, Dukes and Associates, Westside Action Group, Mansie Booker Jr. and many others.
Dameron, president of Dameron Communications, said recipients of the Black Rose Awards have devoted their lives to helping others.
“It is an extreme honor,” he said. “I am proud to be a part of providing these local heroes the recognition they so richly deserve. The Foundation is selling tickets to the awards ceremony for $50 each. Tables of 10 can be reserved for $500.
