Group Formed to Support Commercial Fishing Piers in North Carolina

The North Carolina Fishing Piers Society (NCFPS) was formed to promote the plight of one of North Carolina's most tresured landmarks, the Fishing Pier. Because of the sky rocketing coastal real estate values fishing piers are being dismantled and converted into houses and condos.

(PRWEB) September 9, 2006 -- The North Carolina Fishing Pier Society goal's is to spread the word about what is happening to the piers and to reverse trend. In 1996 there were 32 fishing piers in the state. By 2001 that number was reduced to 25 today there is only 20 with one set to close this fall.

North Carolina beaches are becoming privatized right before our very eyes. The public is losing boat ramps, parking, walkovers as well as fishing piers. Joining the group is free. To find out more about North Carolina Piers and the NCFPS go to www.ncfps.com.
