Kroger and P&G Help the ASPCA Make Life Better for Homeless Pets

Kroger stores and Procter & Gamble donate to ASPCA and help orphaned animals find lifelong homes.

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) September 8, 2006 -- Pets bring unconditional love and happiness to any home, and the bond created between an orphaned pet and human is priceless. That’s why Kroger Stores and P&G brands: Iams Dog and Cat Food, Swiffer, Febreze, and Bounce, are partnering with the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) on a national program to help homeless pets.

Pet lovers can support the program by purchasing participating P&G brands at Kroger and its affiliates: King Soopers, Fry’s, Smiths, QFC, City Market, and Gerbes. Every $10 purchase of Iams Dog and Cat Food, Febreze, Swiffer, and/or Bounce will result in 10 percent of those sales being donated to the ASPCA up to a total donation of $50,000. The campaign runs Sept. 17 through Oct. 14, 2006.

and it’s of paramount importance to all of us in the animal welfare field to find loving, caring homes for all adoptable animals. We are very grateful for the support of Kroger and P&G as we continue to pursue our 140-year old mission.
“Approximately eight to 12 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year,” says Ed Sayres, ASPCA president, “and it’s of paramount importance to all of us in the animal welfare field to find loving, caring homes for all adoptable animals. We are very grateful for the support of Kroger and P&G as we continue to pursue our 140-year old mission.”

To kick off the promotion in Cincinnati — corporate headquarters of both Kroger and Procter & Gamble — an onsite pet adoption day will take place on Sept. 9 at the Anderson Township Kroger location. Representatives from the ASPCA will be onsite to discuss their outreach programs and the Cincinnati SPCA will be present with loveable cats and dogs looking for loving homes. Special coupons, prizes, and giveaways will be part of the day-long celebration.

“The employees of Kroger and P&G understand the importance of pet adoption,” said Sayres. “As animal lovers and responsible human beings, we all can and should do our part in helping these innocent creatures find a lifetime of health and happiness.”

“We are proud of our association with the ASPCA and its ongoing commitment to animal welfare, and are pleased to bring this opportunity to our pet-loving customers with the support of Iams, Swiffer, Febreze, and the Bounce brands,“ states Geoff Covert, president of the Cincinnati/Dayton Division of Kroger. “Through this collaboration, we will make a difference in the lives of shelter animals nationwide.”

Funds raised though this promotion will support the ASPCA’s national outreach efforts that enable local shelters and animal welfare agencies across the country to make life better for homeless pets. Information on the campaign can be found at http://www.aspca.org/helppets.
