Dr. Peter J. Millett joins KFx Medical Corporation Scientific Advisory Board.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 12, 2006 -- KFx Medical Corporation, a developer of minimally invasive percutaneous repair systems for rotator cuff repair announced today that Dr. Peter J Millett, Associate Surgeon at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colorado has joined the KFx Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr Millett was formerly an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at Harvard Medical School and Associate Director of the Harvard Shoulder Service. He was on the staff at the prestigious Brigham & Women's and Massachusetts General Hospitals where he specialized in shoulder, knee, and sports medicine. He was also the Harvard Shoulder Fellowship Co-director and coordinated the Musculoskeletal Proteomics Research Group at Harvard.
Dr. Millett is a volunteer with the United States Ski and Snowboard Association and serves as a team physician for the U.S. Ski Team.
Dr. Millett performed his orthopaedic residency training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, part of Cornell University's Medical School and the oldest and most prestigious orthopaedic residency program in the country. While there, he received the Lewis Clark Wagner Award for excellence in orthopaedic research as well as the American Orthopaedic Association - Zimmer Travel Award, a national award for orthopaedic research. Recently, his research was nominated as a Finalist for the Neer Award from the American Shoulder and Elbow Society.
Dr. Joseph C. Tauro, Chairman of the KFx Scientific Advisory Board and in private practice at Ocean County Sports Medicine in Toms River, NJ and Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at New Jersey Medical School said, “Dr. Millett is one of the pioneers in two point two row fixation with his seminal article in the Journal of Arthroscopy in 2004. It's great to add his vision to KFx.” Dr. Tauro chairs the scientific board that includes Drs. Christopher Behr, Eric Carson, Gregory Fanelli, Matt France, Brad Giannotti, Jon ‘JP’ Warner, Russell Warren.
“I firmly believe in the concept of double row fixation for rotator cuff tears and of the benefits that this will provide to patients. Improving the strength and stability of repairs will translate to greater healing and better clinical outcomes for my patients,” said Dr. Millett.
Over four million people seek medical advice for shoulder pain every year; torn rotator cuffs alone account for more than 500,000 surgeries annually and have traditionally required many weeks of rehabilitation. Traditional minimally invasive techniques, although promising -- patients typically experience less pain and regain full range of motion more quickly -- require surgeons to have advanced videoscopic skills. In contrast, KFx provides simple systems for surgeons while ensuring more anatomical repair for the patient, yielding better clinical outcomes
