CzechWrecks Banger Rally Arrives in Prague with a Bang

The first ever CzechWrecks Banger Rally is a great success, arriving in Prague to much national media attention.

(PRWEB) September 14, 2006 -- The bonkers banger rally called CzechWrecks(1) finished on Monday in Prague, bringing with it 40 banged up old cars and over 120 enthusiastic participants, who were exhausted, but ready for the party of their lives.

Organised by Street Safari, the CzechWrecks rally set a challenge for drivers – can you drive a car bought for less than £100 all the way to Prague in 4 days? Participants not only had to drive over 1,300 miles in their beaten-up bangers, but they also had to undertake a series of daily challenges, earning points for each challenge.

It’s been amazing 4 days. After our car blew up on the final day, and the hassle we had getting it to the finish, it was good to win. The only problem with winning is that we now have trouble driving anywhere without still doing the photo challenges. Stelvio is always a good drive, but if you want to drive something really scary, try Passo Gavia which we drove over by mistake.

As the rally convoy arrived in Old Town, Prague to a honk of horns and a champagne reception at the Staromacek Restaurant, the winners have just been announced, with the overall winners receiving £1,000.

The prizes were awarded as follows:

1st prize (most points accrued on rally): James May's Barnet with Charlie Lawson, Dave Mackey and Rod Price
Biggest Pile of Rubbish: Team InUNotLoB with John Appleyard, John Barnes, Nick Jacevicius and Andy Barnes

Justin Clements of Streetsafari(2), the organiser of the rally, said, “The CzechWrecks rally has been the most challenging of the StreetSafari rallies. We faced a great deal of controversy in the Czech Republic before the event, with false rumours spreading in their national press that we would be dumping hundreds of old bangers on the streets of Prague! This led to a few problems with Czech officials, and some teams didn’t even make it over the border on their first attempt, including myself! But those who did really set a good example for Streetsafari and we had a lot of fun in Prague. I know that we will be very welcome there next year and I am already organising CzechWrecks 2007.”

Charlie Lawson, from the overall winning team of the CzechWrecks rally added, “It’s been amazing 4 days.
