Vancouver, British Columbia, Computer and Electronics Donation and Recycling Program Starts with the Addition of 20 Convenient Drop Off Locations in the Lower Mainland

Electronics Recycling Program starts in British Columbia, with the addition of 20 convenient drop-off depots in the lower mainland. Electronic Recycling Association from Alberta has been operating a pilot project in B.C for the past 12 months. ERA has successfully contracted approximately 20 collection depots in the lower mainland and up to 30 more across British Columbia to accept donations of used computers on its behalf. ERA’s pilot program determined that there is a large need for this type of program in British Columbia, and the B.C government has legislated that this type of program exist, similar to other provinces in Canada, such as Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.

(PRWEB) September 18, 2006 -- ERA is opening a large 20,000 square foot facility in downtown Vancouver, which will be the main collection and sorting depot for computers and electronics collected from the 50 or so established collection points across British Columbia.

Computers and electronics collected are sorted by volunteers and staff of ERA, which operates similar depots in Calgary and Edmonton, Alberta, Toronto, Ontario, and Montreal, Quebec, as well as other cities across Canada. Computers and electronics collected are first reused, by donating them to local charitable and non profit organizations, by various local computer wholesalers and retailers, and finally all end of life equipment is handled by certified recyclers.

The complete list of drop off locations will be gradually made public through the association’s website, at www.era.ca and www.electronicrecyclingassociation.com

Large corporations, government departments, and small businesses can choose to deal with ERA directly by arranging to have their equipment picked up via van, truck, trailer, or even train thanks to a partnership with CP Rail.

Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a private, not-for-profit, corporation established to manage the collection and sorting, of used computers and electronics discarded in B.C. ERA also provides donations of thousands of computers to various charities and non profit groups across Canada. ERA contracts equipment wholesalers and retailers to manage usable computers, as well as certified recyclers to manage the end-of-life product for commodity recycling in Alberta and B.C.
