LetsTalk Offers Tips to Help Consumers Comply with New California Law Banning Hand-Held Cell Phones While Driving

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has added California to the growing list of states that have banned the use of hand-held cell phones while driving.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 18, 2006 – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has added California to the growing list of states that have banned the use of hand-held cell phones while driving. With the signing of bill SB-1613, California drivers will be required to use hands-free devices as of January 1, 2008.

With today’s wireless advances, staying safe while driving and talking on the cell phone is possible. LetsTalk has published some usage tips for people looking to drive and talk safely. In addition, Delly Tamer, founder and CEO of LetsTalk.com, offers these helpful hints for those who are considering hands-free talking options:

In 2000, LetsTalk began encouraging people to keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. We have always endorsed that people use their cell phones carefully while driving.

  • Use a headset. “Hands-free” means no hands on the actual cell phone. Today’s variety of cell phone headsets and the plethora of Bluetooth headsets and Bluetooth-enabled cell phones make the technology more accessible to everyone. Visit LetsTalk’s site to find information about headsets and other hands-free devices.

  • Try out Voice Activated Dialing. It’s worth investing the time to learn how to use this cell phone feature. Voice activated dialing allows users to dial stored phone numbers by simply saying a name in the address book. To compare and learn about voice activated dialing-enabled cell phones, visit LetsTalk.com.

  • Use the speakerphone. Many cell phones have this functionality now. Couple that with voice activated dialing, and consumers never have to pick up a cell phone again while driving.

  • Understand the law. Many counties and some states have laws about using a cell phone while driving. If you plan to use a cell phone while driving in different areas, be sure to check into the local cell phone laws.

  • Don’t type and drive. For now, hands-free options aren’t yet available for texting, e-mailing or sending IMs, so these functions are best left to non-driving situations.

“Talking on a cell phone is just one of many distractions that can compromise the safety of all drivers on the road, so for those who must talk while driving, it’s a good idea to invest in a phone with hands-free features,” said Delly Tamer. “In 2000, LetsTalk began encouraging people to keep their eyes on the road and their hands on the wheel. We have always endorsed that people use their cell phones carefully while driving."
