The Experience Project: The Social Network Where No One Knows Your Name

The Experience Project (www.experienceproject.com) today announced the public launch of a novel social networking community that keeps members anonymous and uses shared life experiences to connect people for support, new friendships and personal growth. Experience Project’s insistence on member privacy enables discussion of all topics without embarrassment, allowing greater personal growth and deeper connections between members than traditional social networks.

SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) September 28, 2006 -- The Experience Project (www.experienceproject.com) today announced the public launch of a novel social networking community that keeps member’s identities private and uses shared life experiences to connect people for support, new friendships and personal growth.

The Experience Project features the member profiles, “friend” networks, and messaging typical of other social networking sites such as Myspace and Facebook. However, in sharp contrast to these other sites, members of the Experience Project remain anonymous, and connect to other members through shared life experiences rather than existing friendships.

“The Experience Project is a place where members can make new and meaningful connections based on who they are, not who they know,” says founder Armen Berjikly.

“The inherently public nature of traditional social networks severely limits their depth, generally relegating their members to reinforcing already existing relationships through superficial banter. The Experience Project liberates members to explore all facets of their lives without fear of embarrassment or retribution, while facilitating new and deep connections between people who understand each other by virtue of having common experiences.”

According to Rafe Needleman, editor at large for CNET.com and an avid reviewer of Web 2.0 organizations, “The Experience Project is actually a very good social network play. It's all about life experiences, and it's designed around anonymity. Overall I think this is a strong and useful service…as it makes sense for people to identify themselves by what they've done.”

Stories form the basis of Experience Project’s communities, with members sharing memories and wisdom about the events they find important in their lives. The experiences on the site cover the entire scope of human life, from the serious, such as coping with diabetes, to the whimsical, such as memories of a first kiss. As members share experiences, the site automatically suggests connections with other users that have similar backgrounds

Feedback from users of the Experience Project, which has already garnered an active community of thousands of members and experiences during limited release, emphasizes themes of healing, insight and making new friends. “I received fresh perspectives from the community, as well as reassurance that I was not as alone as I thought I was,” states a member identified as Andre2. A user called PerpetualSeeker adds, “Another member led me to a breakthrough on a relationship issue I had carried with me for years. Since we had a number of similar experiences, they truly understood the heart of what I was struggling with.”
