Solace Systems Achieves NEBS Level 3 Compliance

Ottawa, Canada (PRWEB) September 27, 2006 –- Solace Systems, the leader in value-added services (VAS) routing systems, today announced that its VRS/32 Value-Added Services Routing System has completed NEBS (Network Equipment-Building Systems) Level 3 compliance testing.

Solace’s compliance with NEBS ensures that its VAS Routing Systems are spatially and environmentally compatible with typical service provider central office environments. With a NEBS Level 3 classification, service providers can be confident that Solace’s routers will stand up to the most stringent environmental extremes, including cabling, operations, handling, temperature and power.

“Our NEBS Level 3 compliance further demonstrates our commitment to providing service providers with the highest quality system that can be easily and confidently integrated into their networks,” said Peter Ashton, vice president of product management at Solace Systems. “We are dedicated to working with our customers to ensure enterprises and consumer end-users can quickly benefit from a network that more intelligently processes and delivers critical content, whether it is the latest financial quotes, the status of a high profile delivery, or updates on their favorite sports teams.”

NEBS Level 3 requirements are defined by the generic requirement documents GR-63-CORE and GR-1089-CORE. The minimum spatial and environmental criteria include:

  • Power and grounding equipment
  • Electrical safety
  • Radiated and conducted emissions and immunity
  • Operating temperature and humidity
  • Fire resistance
  • Equipment handling
  • Earthquake
  • Office vibration and transportation vibration
  • Airborne contaminants

With VAS routing, service providers can move beyond simple provisioning of network connections to create new application-level value-added services for enterprise and consumer customers. Solace’s VAS Routing System moves application-level functionality into the network and transforms bit-pipe networks into intelligent application exchange systems. With its scalable architecture, service providers can deliver utility-style, on demand computing by embedding key application-level functionality directly into the network.

NEBS is the most common set of safety, spatial and environmental design guidelines applied to telecommunications equipment in the United States. Compliance to NEBS ensures that telephones and data networks can operate through earthquakes, thunderstorms and other environmentally extreme events. While telecommunications networks are still the primary inspiration for compliance, NEBS requirements are utilized all over the world for a host of commercial, utility and defense applications.
