BK Fashion Week{end} Roars Into Its second season!

After their successful Premiere in May 2006, BK Fashion Week{end} now joins the global fashion calendar, showing spring 2007 collections from October 20-22 at its land marked location, The Tobacco Warehouse at Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn.

New York, NEW YORK (PRWEB) September 29, 2006 -- The event kicks off on October 20th with a glamorous night of international fashion in tribute to the eclectic mix of cultures that has driven Brooklyn’s ascendancy as a style base. Headlining the evening is young UK designer Jay Wilson, a Galliano-inspired new talent who is poised to become a force in the industry. A BBC television crew is flying in with Jay to document his Brooklyn experience.

“This collection is basically a tribute to my mother and all other single mothers out there,” Jay declares. “It’s a collection that’s been made to empower women and give the wearer further belief in herself. It encourages women to become the character that they’ve always wanted to be, be it a vixen from a Bond film or a singer in a jazz club. And it also shows the lengths that a mother will go to see her child succeed.”

The International Showcase at Brooklyn Fashion Week also features the work of Meiling, a UK-trained, Trinidad and Tobago based designer whose forte is a cool translation of Ralph Lauren-type style, in a manner eminently suited to her lush tropical environment (www.meilinginc.com). Meiling released this statement about her BK Fashion Week collection: “While maintaining my identity and love of clean lines and subtle layering of transparency and textures, I have embraced the current mood of purity and simplicity. With ivory organdy, white cotton, silk and washed linen and using lines inspired by colonial Caribbean architecture”. Meiling has created a spring collection which is both playful and sophisticated.

Several designers from the past season are also scheduled to make a re-appearance on BK Fashion Week’s sleek black runway including: Nana Boateng, H.O.R.R.S, Cotrice, Duroseau Couture, Roger Gary and Nature vs. Future. New designers will be announced soon!

BK Fashion Week’s Spring 07 collections will also be graced by a brace of models from the Pulse International Agency in Jamaica, a maverick talent machine that has the distinction of being the only Caribbean-based agency to spawn international- level mannequins. Arena/ FHM cover girl Nell Robinson, Gucci girl Nadine Willis and Vogue spread veterans Kimanee Wilson and Jaunel McKenzie are amongst some of the stars that were launched through Pulse… it will be exciting to see what this latest crop of girls will do after their BK Fashion Week launch.

BK Fashion Week is the first haute couture showcase to be headquartered in New York’s most trend-setting borough and continues to grow in strength after its May shows. Significant support for BK Fashion Week and its parent non-profit, the BK Style Foundation, has been provided by the office of Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce (an Event Partner) and the DUMBO Improvement District.
