KUA Cuts Electric Rates for Third Straight Month

October marks the third consecutive month of electric rate reductions for Kissimmee Utility Authority customers in Central Florida. Since July, the utility has lowered rates by 10.7 percent or $12.21 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity.

Kissimmee, FL (PRWEB) September 28, 2006 -- Kissimmee Utility Authority (KUA) announced today that it will cut electric rates by 4.6 percent beginning Oct. 1 because of lower fuel costs, saving the typical residential electric user in Kissimmee nearly $5 a month.

October marks the third consecutive month of rate reductions for KUA customers. Since July, the utility has lowered rates by 10.7 percent or $12.21 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. The newest rate cut will leave the charge for the utility's fuel costs at its lowest level of the year.

The cumulative total of the rate decreases represents nearly $1.6 million in savings for utility customers.

The latest decrease will be reflected on utility bills mailed to customers beginning Monday, Oct. 2.

KUA adjusts its energy prices up or down monthly to reflect the fluctuating costs of the fuels used to make electricity. KUA's current rate is $102.40 per 1,000 kWh.

Here's a statewide comparison of residential electric rates:

Utility - Rate*
Tallahassee - $134.00
Tampa Electric - $106.87
Progress Energy - $106.82
Winter Park - $106.82
Florida Power & Light - $105.89
St. Cloud - $103.95
