Vignoble Carone Red Wines Win Gold and Silver Medals - Cabernet Severnyi and Frontenac win medals at the All Canadian Wine Championships

Vignoble Carone, Quebec’s leading producer of mainly red, fruit-focused New World style wines, today announced that it is the proud recipient of gold and silver medals at the 2006 All Canadian Wine Championships (ACWC).

Vignoble Carone was awarded a gold medal for its 2004 Cabernet Severnyi and a silver medal for its 2004 Frontenac red wines.

Vignoble Carone’s Owner and Winemaker, Anthony Carone stated: “We are thrilled to see our two red wines recognized for their quality. Winning these medals demonstrates that Quebec wines, specifically red wines, are gaining insurmountable appeal and acceptance.”

The ACWC is the oldest (established in 1981) and largest judging event solely for Canadian wines. This year’s competition, held in Windsor, Ontario on May 12th and 13th, saw over forty industry professionals, sommeliers and wine writers, from across Canada and the U.S., taste their way through 932 wines submitted by 132 wineries from Ontario, British Columbia, Quebec, Atlantic Canada

and Manitoba.

About Cabernet Severnyi

Vignoble Carone is the only commercial grower in Quebec of the Cabernet Severnyi grape. This wine from the 2004 vintage has an intense dark black color, staining the glass. This medium bodied wine has sweet fruit on the front palate and flavours of wild Raspberry and Elderberries with its slightly sharp mouth and cleansing finish that encourages another glassful. Good balance of vanilla and oak. Aged 12 months in French oak barrels. ($12.95/ 750 ml bottle)

The Frontenac grape has found a home in Quebec’s Lanaudiere Valley growing region where warmer summer climates and cool nights yield some of the most intensely flavoured high-quality grapes.

This medium-bodied wine has a vibrant nose of sweet-sour cherry fruit, vanilla and spices with good balance and plush ripe tannins. A beautiful example of what our site has to offer. Impressive now and even more so with careful cellaring! ($14.95/ 750 ml bottle)
