Thompson Derailment Doesn't Stop Fun Seekers

Canadian Pacific train derailment does not stop whitewater river rafters from enjoying the short B.C. summer.

(PRWEB) August 4, 2006 -- Having such a short summer in B.C forces everyone to appreciate the weather and enjoy it while it’s here. Hence it was no surprise that CP’s Train Derailment on Monday just outside of Lytton came as a shock to the local tourism businesses that often only operate during the summer months. The pristine crystal clear waters of the Thompson River attract locals and tourist who partake in hiking, camping, sightseeing and white water river rafting.

Warren Cove who is the head rafting guide and owner of Hyak Wilderness Adventures stated that “White Water River Rafting continued after the derailment but it took extra work. We had to stop the river rafting trip just before the bridge and have the rafter’s hike up a short trail. The boats were left on the river since there was no room to bring a trailer in. Since our operating season is so short, shutting down was not an option. CP Rail gave us the go ahead, so things will be back to normal this weekend. Also we will be able to move our boats to a location to pick them up with a trailer.”

Anyone that has a trip planned to Lytton in the immediate future should double check to make sure everyone is running back to normal.

Lytton is one of the hottest summer spots in B.C reaching temperatures well into the 30’s. Lytton has also become a haven for thrill seekers that raft the mighty Thompson River.
