It's incredibly rare for a modern quote to come along that will live on. All ten of these quotes are good in their own right, but I doubt that any of them will become part of the national lexicon. It's hard to imagine a movie written today topping 'Casablanca' for sheer number of memorable quotable lines.

Robert Altman’s final bit of genius was producing a film about life and death in his final year of living. ‘A Prairie Home Companion’ features many insightful perspectives, including Reel Life Wisdom’s smartest movie quote of 2006 – “Every show’s your last show. That’s my philosophy.”
The A Prairie Home Companion quote tops a list of wise perspectives from such films as Inside Man, The Departed, Rocky Balboa, and Little Miss Sunshine. The quote list was compiled by surveying a variety of well-known and lesser-known movie reviewers on the web. Members of web discussion groups were also surveyed, providing some of the best recommendations for wisdom from the movies in 2006. The list can be viewed at http://www.ReelLifeWisdom.com.
“We defined a smart quote as one that presents a thought-provoking perspective,” said Doug Manning, sponsor of the survey and creator of the Reel Life Wisdom blog. “The type of quote we were seeking could be great advice or a clever turn of words. We were looking for writing that could convey a wise message briefly and independently, without ever having to see the rest of the movie.”
“We chose the quote from the Altman film because it encourages all of us to live each day to the fullest,” said Manning. “This is good advice in a world that seems to go by so quickly. We assume Mr. Altman lived his own life according to this philosophy.”
James Berardinelli, a popular online film critic from ReelViews.net, wonders if modern movies will ever match older films for memorable lines. “It's incredibly rare for a modern quote to come along that will live on. All ten of these quotes are good in their own right, but I doubt that any of them will become part of the national lexicon. It's hard to imagine a movie written today topping 'Casablanca' for sheer number of memorable quotable lines.”
The Reel Life Wisdom website regularly features and evaluates intelligent writing in the movies. The site delivers daily inspirational movie quotes, regular Quote Reviews, and various Top Five lists of movie quotations (eg. Top Five Smartest Quotes from a Bond Villain). You can also submit a quote to be featured on the site.
“We think screenwriters have a lot to say about the human condition,” said Manning. “Their quality writing is hidden behind ‘pop culture’ quotes like ‘Make my day’ that have no meaning beyond the context of the movie. We hope this list and our new website will help bring a greater profile to the insightful perspectives embedded in many films.”
