LEXINGTON, MA (PRWEB) January 11, 2007
B*tween Productions, Inc., home of the Beacon Street Girls, today announced it is providing free downloadable educator activities (http://www.beaconstreetgirls.com/Educators/BookInfo/tabid/182/Default.aspx ) on the Beacon Street Girls website. The activities are designed for grades 4 through 7 school teachers; librarians, guidance counselors, scouting and after-school program leaders, and home schoolers. Like the award-winning website, the activity guides complement and support the Beacon Street Girls book series.
"The Beacon Street Girls books are powerful. They engage girls through literature and providing a host of positive role models and messages," said Addie Swartz, the principal creator of the Beacon Street Girls and the mother of two tween girls. "Our mission is to provide high quality literature for preteen girls, ages 9-13, the kind of books that girls love and adults - parents, teachers, librarians, and guidance professionals - can confidently and enthusiastically recommend. Our new downloads are designed with teachers, librarians, after-school programs, scouting leaders, and home schooling parents in mind.
"We frequently hear from educators that the books are useful for dealing with classroom issues and that they are useful roadmaps for children as they are navigating adolescence."
Swartz continued, "These activity sheets are designed to make it easy for the group leader to integrate the Beacon Street Girls books into their specific program. Educators download a print-ready page in one of four categories - discussions, group activities, art and writing projects. Designed by teachers, the activities will fit right into various curricula. More importantly, the activities, like the books, are designed to be fun and meaningful for the kids."
The Beacon Street Girls are five plucky twelve-year-olds whose adventures have been chronicled in an award-winning book series for preteen girls (http://www.beaconstreetgirls.com/books ) Girls love to read about the characters who are "just like me" and parents are thrilled to see their daughters reading the books which help to promote healthy role models and build self-esteem.
The company created its original activity guide for its first book, "Worst Enemies/Best Friends" in 2005 in partnership with Girls, Inc., the national non-profit dedicated to supporting millions of under-served girls. By working with teachers and various girl group leaders, additional guides and individual activity downloads have been added for "Bad News/Good News", "Letters from the Heart", "Out of Bounds" and the first BSG Adventure book, "Charlotte in Paris." The activities are designed for children in grades 4 through 7. More activities will be added on a regular basis.
Educators can sign up for the BSG's free online newsletter (http://www.beaconstreetgirls.com/Parents/ParentsNewsletter/tabid/173/Default.aspx ) if they wish to be notified when new activity downloads are added to the website, as well as receiving tween-specific information.
