Breast Cancer through the Eyes of Caregiver Husband

Thomas Brown struggles with shocking news of his wife's cancer diagnosis. He tells the heartfelt story from his perspective as a male/husband caregiver and his wife's main source of strength through her two-year battle.

Leavenworth, KS (PRWEB) January 14, 2007 -- Honest, informative, and incredibly revealing describe Thomas Brown's new book "Men Bleed Too: A Compelling Story About One Man's Struggle to Help His Wife Fight Breast Cancer!"(ISBN 9780595361878, iUniverse, Inc., 2005). Brown becomes the voice for all men who have struggled, or are still in the throws of their loved one's cancer diagnosis.

It was December 1992 when the Brown's first got the news that the tumor in Barbara's right breast was cancerous. The couple of twenty-five years immediately formed a plan - Barbara would be the patient and fight as hard as she could, and Thomas would be her task manager and caregiver. Brown, a Colonel in the U.S. Army, immediately began researching breast cancer, and initiated the arduous task of caring for his ill wife. With thoughts of her death plaguing him daily, he turned to his journal to detail the events regarding medication/treatments, etc., and subsequently, to vent his own frustrations and the rollercoaster of emotions he experienced.

"Men Bleed Too" is a story of inner courage, strength in crisis, and of an unwavering faith. Brown's emotional/mental/spiritual journey is one that no man wants to take, and for most, it is the hardest thing they will do in their lifetime. Chapter by chapter, Brown details the role he played during their fight with cancer. As Barbara's illness advanced, Brown became smarter and more educated about the process. His "tell all" perspective reveals the decisions he made concerning treatment, the side affects of chemotherapy, and unexpected things to look out for; as well as, the constant effort it took not to make his wife feel helpless, the precious moments in between the pain, and what he did to take care of himself during the progression.

Brown's goal with his book is to present a wealth of information that will help anyone who has a loved one battling cancer. With little on the shelves written from the male perspective, Brown was forced to learn through experience, and now offers his understanding and informative account of the process. Barbara eventually lost her battle in 1994 at forty-five years of age, and through the help of Brown's loving family, he now gives support to others going through the fight of their life.

Thomas Brown was born and raised in Leavenworth, Kansas. He graduated from The University of Kansas in 1970 with a B.A., and holds a M.S. from Emporia State University. Tom retired in the grade of Colonel from the U.S. Army in 1996, and through the years authored numerous articles published by the U.S. Army. The sequel to "Men Bleed Too" is titled "She Taught Me To Laugh Again," and will be published in January 2007. It is the story about a middle forties couple that lost their spouses to death and build a new life together.
