Laridian, Inc., has released the IVP Bible Background Commentary New Testament and IVP Bible Background Commentary Old Testament in a format compatible with Laridian's MyBible software for Palm OS and PocketBible software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC.

Laridian, Inc., a leading publisher of Bible-related software for mobile devices, today announced the release of the IVP Bible Background Commentary New Testament and IVP Bible Background Commentary Old Testament in a format compatible with Laridian's MyBible software for Palm OS and PocketBible software for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC. The PDA editions of these companion volumes provide cultural and historical background for the entire Bible.

The IVP Bible Background Commentary New Testament covers the New Testament verse-by-verse with relevant cultural, social and historical background so you can read the New Testament the way its first readers would have read it. The IVP Bible Background Commentary Old Testament covers the Old Testament passage-by-passage with valuable insight into the Israelite culture and worldview.

"Think of it this way: People who don't know Greek and Hebrew need a good translation to understand the Bible. But each text of the Bible presupposes a certain cultural and historical situation, which also must be understood if you want to arrive at a correct interpretation. The IVP Bible Background Commentary complements a reliable translation," says Craig Keener, author of the IVP Bible Background Commentary New Testament.

"These "background" commentaries are unique in that they provide the Bible reader with a depth of cultural information not available in other one-volume commentaries," says Craig Rairdin, President of Laridian. "PocketBible and MyBible users can instantly view this helpful background information side-by-side with any PocketBible or MyBible Bible on their PDA."

Laridian products give PDA users a convenient way to read and study the Bible on-the-go. MyBible is best-selling Bible software for Palm OS devices, allowing users to easily search biblical text, as well as add personalized notes, highlights, bookmarks and more. PocketBible, a recipient of Pocket PC Magazine's "Best Bible Software" award for five years running, is designed for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PC devices and includes powerful searching, note-taking and other advanced capabilities previously available only on desktop computers.

The IVP Bible Background Commentary New Testament and the IVP Bible Background Commentary Old Testament sell for US$14.99 each or together for US$19.99. The books require the PocketBible 3 program for Pocket PC or MyBible 4 program for Palm OS, each sold separately for US$10.00. All items are available for immediate download from the Laridian Web site.
