InfoValue SuiteTV™ Solution Provides VOD Services for Patients at Pocono Medical Center

SuiteTV Powers On-Demand Patient Educational and Entertainment Services

ELMSFORD, N.Y. (PRWEB) January 16, 2007 -- InfoValue Computing, Inc. (InfoValue), an expert in providing innovative, high-performance video-streaming platforms and solutions, today announced that Pocono Medical Center (PMC), located in East Stroudsburg, Pa., has installed its InfoValue SuiteTV™ solution at the hospital’s new ESSA Heart and Vascular Institute. The InfoValue SuiteTV solution provides on-demand streaming-video services to individual patient rooms. This facility is one the first of its kind to offer this technology and services to patients and visitors.

“A hospital room can be a lonely environment for patients, especially if they are bedridden before or after surgery,” said Nick Patel, clinical web administrator at Pocono Medical Center. “InfoValue SuiteTV helps them feel less isolated by providing on-demand access to various entertainment video content. In addition, they can watch educational videos to learn more about our services and treatments for their particular illnesses, and take part in surveys that help us improve patient satisfaction.”

Situated in the hospital’s data center, the InfoValue SuiteTV system’s video-on-demand (VOD) server streams patient education videos on such topics as heart and respiratory diseases, diabetes, rehabilitation, wellness, and prevention. Some videos provide detailed explanation of how PMC doctors treat illnesses so patients can feel more empowered and informed about their healthcare decisions.

Each patient room at the ESSA Heart and Vascular Institute is private and contains a plasma television, IP set-top box, and remote control. A simple and easy-to-use interface allows the patient to navigate various menus for educational videos, surveys, and cable television. The videos feature the same functionality as a full-featured VOD system, with the ability to pause, fast forward, rewind, and stop at any time, which is especially convenient as patients often have nurse and family visits.

“Traditionally, patient video-training in hospitals was conducted by a staff member wheeling a cart with a television and VCR to a patient’s room, giving patients little flexibility over what they watched,” said Aubrey Flanagan, vice president, business development and solutions at InfoValue Computing. “With InfoValue SuiteTV, patients now have the power to pick and choose exactly the kind of material they seek, and the hospital can be assured of a higher rate of patient satisfaction.”

The InfoValue SuiteTV solution is based on the InfoValue QuickVideo™ server, a software-based platform for comprehensive video-streaming functionality over IP networks. Based on a modular, open architecture, it enables video-on-demand and multicasting; networked personal video recording (for instant replay); recording, archiving, and publishing; and content distribution. It is incrementally and independently scalable.

PMC purchased the InfoValue SuiteTV solution through Advanced Media Technologies, an InfoValue distributor.
