The Department of Radiology and The Women's Health Center at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, N.Y., received a perfect score in a recent New York State Department of Health surprise inspection of the hospital's Mammography equipment, achieving a perfect 100% score.

The objective of the state's mammography inspection program is to support patient safety, continuous improvement, and to promote clinical and diagnostic excellence. The equipment was evaluated and inspected by DOH personnel as a part of their unscheduled inspection process for hospitals and other healthcare facilities that provide mammography services. The inspection consisted of both a document review as well as a thorough evaluation of the equipment.

Michael Schnieders, Executive Vice President and Administrator at Good Samaritan Hospital (http://www.GoodSamHosp.org), commented, "This inspection and the perfect score achieved are especially gratifying given that our Women's Health Center took on the responsibilities earlier in the year for hundreds of additional mammography records from patients of a failed private radiology practice. The perfect scores earned by our Department of Radiology and Women's Health Center in recent inspections prove that we are consistently at the forefront of advancing the health and well being of women in our community."

The hospital's mammography services are under the direction of the Department of Radiology. The program also recently achieved a perfect 100% rating from the United States FDA in its annual Mammography Quality Standards Act inspection, as well as a 100% score from the New York State DOH in its evaluation of stereotactic breast biopsy.

Good Samaritan Hospital is a member of Bon Secours Health System, Inc., one of the nation's leading Catholic healthcare systems.
