Matt joins The Mumford Company with 22 years of experience in the hotel industry. With an extensive background in hospitality, Matt's resume includes experience as Corporate Director, Corporate Vice President, as well as on-site operational experience as General Manager and Department Head. Having worked with such brands as Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Choice International and Holiday Inn and properties ranging from small urban inns to two thousand room, 'world's busiest', convention hotel he draws upon his experience as he assists sellers and buyers in their investment activities.
He has successfully opened three corporately managed, franchised properties during his professional career. His efforts resulted in consistent achievement of operational and guest services, rating nationally and in his region, earning Marriott's coveted President's Award. Additionally, Matt has skills in procuring hospitality industry, government contracts.
While with Harbor Group International, he led an investment effort that reviewed over $800 million in hotel deals and acquired $27 million in hotel assets in a 12 month period.
Prior to joining Harbor Group Intl. Matt founded, Tidewater Lodging Company, a hotel service and consulting firm, where he evaluated hotel development and acquisition opportunities on behalf of private equity groups, municipalities, owner/operators, and privately held corporations with assets in excess of $1.3 billion. His work resulted in his recruitment to join Harbor Group International. Matt's experience includes investment analysis, franchise relations, strategic planning, and overall operational review which will serve The Mumford Company clientele well.
Since relocating to the Hampton Roads community Matt has served as a member of the VBHMA (Virginia Beach Hotel and Motel Association) board, the Legislative Committee, and Chamber of Commerce Executive Board. He has also served the hospitality industry as a member of Holiday Inn Brands' Emerging Technology advisory board.
