Powderhorn Plugs In

A leading Colorado ski area is among the nation's first to market using short text messages sent to customers' mobile phones. This forward thinking Resort hopes to provide a unique service that keeps guests coming back for more.

Grand Junction, CO (PRWEB) January 19, 2007 -- What is the latest and greatest tool to get people to the slopes? SMS (short message service) or text messaging. Powderhorn Ski Resort recently added mobile text messaging as a new marketing tool that will provide better service, more frequent bargains and greater discounts to consumers who sign up for the new service.

Text messaging via mobile phones is a favorite way for cellular users to keep in touch within circles of friends. Powderhorn is building on that concept to provide instant deals and slope condition information to its extensive list of guests.

Powderhorn’s Marketing Director, Sarah Allen says the text service is a hit with customers already. "Text messaging to mobile phones is THE way to get in front of the gamer generation," Allen said. "With the instant turnaround, we can drive business on slower days and keep our guests informed of new snowfall, upcoming events, etc, without all the hassles and expense of direct mail, email, or some other traditional marketing method."

"Our goal is to provide a useful service for our guests that they get excited about and want to share with friends," Allen added. "This clearly is a win-win situation for our guests and for us."

The service is available free to anyone with a text-enabled mobile phone, although normal mobile phone carrier message charges will apply. To opt in, consumers need only visit www.Powderhorn.com or text "COSNOW" to their five digit SMS number of 38714. Because consumers must opt into the service, the messages go only to those who want to receive them.

nxtConcepts, Ltd represents Powderhorn’s entrance into mobile marketing in addition to several other mobile projects that are in the works for the Ohio-based full-service interactive marketing and media company. "The uses for mobile marketing are endless. It’s always on. Always in the pocket of the user. Plus, the United States is poised for explosive SMS growth," says Samantha Rufo, president of nxtConcepts, Ltd. "Text message marketing is one of the most exciting new marketing tools at the moment. It’s fast, easy, and engages the elusive 12-25 year old crowd in a way no other marketing can. Whether we work with ski areas or other types of businesses, text messaging is the perfect way to do txt2win contests, voting, coupons, special promotions, and quick condition updates via text messages."
