Lafayette, CA (PRWEB) January 23, 2007 -- TechExcel, Inc., the leading provider of knowledge-centric Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) software solutions, announced today that its DevPlan project planning tool for software development teams has been named a finalist in the Project Management Tools category of the 2007 Jolt Awards, sponsored by Dr. Dobbs Journal. The Jolt Awards are considered the Oscars of the programming industry, recognizing "the most innovative, trend-making, ahead-of-the-curve products" in their field, according to the magazine.

DevPlan, which debuted in August 2006, is a component in TechExcel's DevSuite Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) platform as well as a standalone application and is designed exclusively for Application Lifecycle Management. DevPlan unites project tracking and issue management, providing managers a much clearer view of a project's status, as DevTrack issue status and schedules directly roll up into the DevPlan project status and timeline.

DevPlan is one of 106 products to achieve finalist status in the 2007 Jolt Awards, and one of only six to be named in the Project Management Tools segment. The awards, now in their 17th year, are chosen by a highly select group of industry judges. Judges select the finalists based on their audience suitability, productivity, innovation, quality, ROI, risk and flexibility; online reviews, peer reviews, product information and industry buzz are also considered.

"DevPlan has been developed as the most comprehensive and intuitive way yet to manage the entire software development process, from conceptual design to implementation. We're pleased that the judges of this year's Jolt Awards share in our excitement," said Tieren Zhou, President, CEO and founder of TechExcel. "We believe that a knowledge-centric strategy will create huge productivity and quality gains for development teams. This has been the guiding principle behind DevPlan as well as the entire DevSuite product line."

The 2007 Jolt Award winners will be announced March 21, 2007 at a gala dinner during the Software Development West Conference and Expo in Santa Clara, California. Dr. Dobbs Journal states that Jolt Award winners will be those products judged to be universally useful, simple yet rich in functionality, pioneers that redefine their product space, as well as products that solve a nagging problem that has consistently eluded other products and books.

Dr. Dobbs Journal was merged with Software Development magazine in May, 2006. The journal is considered the definitive source for those who implement and manage teams, technologies, practices and tools integral to successful development projects. The magazine reaches 120,000 subscribers monthly.
