A new InfoTrack market research study describes in detail the disruptive impact Microsoft is having on the market for IP Telephony (IPT) systems as well as on the market for Unified Communications (UC) applications.
In June 2006, Microsoft announced an expansion of its UC strategy to include Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007, which could serve as a complete IPT system. Microsoft already had been offering a set of UC applications, including instant messaging, presence and Web collaboration, and it had developed business-partner relationships with all of the major PBX and IPT manufacturers, including Avaya and Cisco. Once OCS 2007 becomes available, Microsoft could be competing directly with its former business partners.

- How familiar are enterprise and SMB decision-makers with Microsoft's new UC product line?

- Does adoption of the new product suite depend on a company's current status regarding IPT implementation?
- How many companies intend to delay their IPT decision in order to evaluate the Microsoft products?
- How many companies would prefer the Microsoft version of the most popular UC applications instead of the version developed by their IP PBX manufacturer/vendor?
