International Beater Rallies Offer Cross-Atlantic Adoption Opportunities

Street Safari, the company behind the annual BABE American beater rally and numerous European banger rallies, offers the chance for Americans to ‘adopt’ or be adopted by European teams, making it easier for them to take part in rallies on the other side of the Atlantic by way of a new scheme called 'Adopt a Yank' or 'Adopt a Limey'.

(PRWEB) February 1, 2007 -- Street Safari(1), the company behind the annual BABE American beater rally(2) and numerous European banger rallies, offers the chance for Americans to ‘adopt’ or be adopted by European teams, making it easier for them to take part in rallies on the other side of the Atlantic by way of a new scheme called 'Adopt a Yank' or 'Adopt a Limey'.

Organised by Street Safari, the annual BABE (Big Apple to Big Easy) rally has brought the British concept of ‘banger rallying’ to the United States. Participants can use only vehicles purchased for less than $250. Despite the cost restraint, the vechicles must still be road-legal. Teams not only have to drive this vehicle from New York to New Orleans in 4 days, but they also undertake a series of daily challenges, earning points for each challenge.

Street Safari also organises 4 other 'banger' rallies in Europe each year, with over 1,000 European (mostly British) participants. Street Safari now offers teams from both sides of the pond the chance to adopt each other so that they can participate more easily in rallies on the other side of the Atlantic.

Justin Clements, Director of Street Safari explains, “Many of our experienced European teams are looking for more adventurous rallies to take part in now, and the American BABE rally really appeals to them. The trouble is that it is not easy for people in England to get hold of a car in America and get it ready in time for the BABE rally when they are over 3,000 miles away. Likewise, we have had a lot of interest from Americans who want to come over to Europe and do one of the original Street Safari rallies, but they just aren’t able to get a vehicle. A sort of match-making adoption scheme was really the solution a lot of teams needed.”

Tim Hansen, an American participant in the inaugural BABE rally in 2006, says, "When the Top Gear team came over and needed help with a car, I was more than happy to help. There are some things you just really need a man on the ground for, so to speak."

American teams taking part in BABE 2007 offer to ‘adopt’ any European teams who want to come over to the USA for the BABE rally, help them find a suitable $250 auto, and get it ready for the road in time for the European team's arrival in the States in May.

The new project also offers new exciting opportunities for Americans to take part in the famous Street Safari European banger rallies(3), which go from England to Italy, England to Prague, or France to Morocco. Each rally takes place over just a few days, which makes them easy to fit into the modern adventurer’s busy lifestyle. Many of the European teams are happy to ‘adopt’ American teams, help them to find a suitably crappy old beater and get it ready in time for the rallies.

All of the rallies cover thousands of miles of challenging routes and take in steep and twisty mountain passes. Finding the right car that is up to such a challenge at such a low price is half the fun of it, and this will now be easier for the more adventurous souls that want to cross the Atlantic to experience one of the infamous Street Safari rallies.

Anyone from anywhere in the world can take part in any of the Street Safari events. To join in the fun, teams can sign up online at www.streetsafari.com. Entry fees apply. After that, they just need to find a car, prepare it for the journey, and turn up at the rendezvous point in 2007, ready for the adventure of a lifetime.

Notes to editors:

1.Street Safari is the original European banger-rallying company. The original event, the infamous and highly successful Staples2Naples rally (which took contestants from Staples Corner in London to Naples in Italy) first took place in 2003 and has taken place every September since. Due to overwhelming demand, further rallies have been introduced over the years including Home2Rome, CzechWrecks, Calais2Casablanca and now BABE, with even more adventurous rallies planned for the future.

2.The BABE Rally (Big Apple to Big Easy) leaves New York for Virginia on Thursday May 24. Day 2 takes the participants to Tennessee and then on to Alabama on Day 3. The final leg will see participants arrive in New Orleans on Sunday May 27 for a party and awards ceremony. For more information please see www.baberally.com

3.Street Safari offers four European banger rallies. There are two to Italy, called ‘Staples2Naples’ and ‘Home2Rome’ (departing London in September 2007). There is also one to Prague called ‘CzechWrecks’ (departing London in October 2007) and a new one from France to Morocco, called ‘Calais2Casablanca’ whose inaugural run is June 2007.
