In Karen Adler Feeley's debut novel, four teens are given the chance to live out their dream lives, and in the process learn much about themselves. (Project 20/20: The Experiment, ISBN 978-1-84728-531-7, paperback, 304 pp, 6 x 9, Retail: $19.98, $14.95 on Lulu.com).
Arlington, VA (PRWEB) February 2, 2007 -- In her quest to find the ideal job, Karen Adler Feeley has worked as a police officer in a seashore resort in New Jersey, an English Teacher in China, a Wall Street stock analyst in New York, and a writer both at home and on the road. Like the characters in her novel, she longed to find the perfect career. She dreamt of using a time travel device that would allow her to try out various careers firsthand. She then realized this would be the perfect hook for an inspirational, character-driven novel aimed at teens of all ages.
In the book, four teens are given the opportunity to travel to a simulated reality world where they can live out their dream jobs, and see where these paths may lead. Each teen volunteers for different reasons. April needs to find herself before beginning college. Karla sees this as an alternative to dropping out of high school. Taylor craves adventure. Marco has no idea what he wants to do, so he follows the lead of his best friend, Taylor. During the experiment, the four discover that reality, even the alternative kind, has a way of turning dreams into nightmares. Not until they change the way they think, will they understand that they are in control of their own destinies.
As one reviewer said of Feeley's novel, "Whether you are a teenager in age or at heart, you'll love the chance to travel in a parallel universe of what you would like to do when you 'grow up'...The book is filled with nuances that enhance the importance of really good values in our lives...This book may be just what we need to give ourselves that 'push' to start creating our own future the way we imagine and/or desire it."
Karen Adler Feeley is currently working on a non-fiction book that explores living with Spasmodic Dysphonia, a rare disorder that affects people's voices and career choices. A native of Toms River, NJ, she currently lives in Arlington, VA, with her husband.
