New Website Launch and Auction to Raise Funds for Jawonio
NY-NJ agency serves children and adults with disabilities.
New City, NY (PRWEB) February 2, 2007 -- In 1947, 7 families were looking for a summer camp experience for their disabled children. On Friday, February 2, 2007, families from around New York, the United States and the world can can help support Jawonio.
Jawonio, from the native American word for Independence, is located in the Lower Hudson Valley in New York. The agency, which is the 11th largest employer in Rockland County serves more that 5600 children and adults annually. Services include, daycare and preschool, pre-employment and job placement, psychiatric services, community living services, clinical and medical services and service coordination. How to find a way to constantly meet the needs of the communities they serve and raise funds is harder today than ever as non-profits struggle to keep their programs going under difficult federal and state budgetary constraints.
"For the past 3 years, we have been researching non profit services and how we could develop our own website.. We needed to make sure that we became a site that was first, warm and welcoming, and then of course, easy to navigate and to use and is able to meet the needs of our families and community," says PR Director and Web administrator Diana Hess.
Why did it take so long to go on line ?
Hess continued, "We had a site, but I can tell you it was not great. Our funds first and foremost go to our consumers and the services they need. When we had some extra funds this year, the push was on to say to senior management, this was not a short term cost it was a long term investment and our CEO Paul Tendler saw it that way too, thankfully."
Jawonio came up with the photos and content, and the sight was built and designed by Delaney Computer Services in Sloatsburg, NY. Hess said to launch the auction and site simultaneously is a great way to drive people to their website at www.jawonio.org. In order to get to the auction, individuals will go to the Jawonio website and click onto the auction page. It is the one extra step we wanted to ensure that people would have the opportunity to see our work and understand the scope and depth of our services. Jawonio is partnering with CMarket auction house for this month-long effort. Items include trips, memorabilia, sports items, and celebrity items.
"We are excited about the new technology and it fits into our mission perfectly by offering our services in a new and exciting way. We are not only raising awareness about Jawonio, but we are raising much needed funds for our children and adults with disabilities and special needs," Hess said.
Jawonio is an affiliate of ACCSES-DSPA a national advocacy organization located in Washington, DC as well as an affiliate of the Cerebral Palsy Associations of NYS.
