North Huntingdon, PA (PRWEB) February 7, 2007 -- 80sTees.com, the leading online retailer of nostalgic licensed pop culture t-shirts, today announced the much-awaited results of their online poll to select the "Best TV Theme Song." According to Kevin Stecko, owner of 80sTees.com, they devised the poll because they were "looking for a way to let the public decide which song was best, and memorable tunes from TV that made it to the final round included "The A-Team," "Cheers," "Batman," and "The Dukes of Hazzard."
It was not a big surprise when the winner, "Cheers," was declared victorious, receiving just over 32% of the 2000 person vote. 80sTees.com attributes the song's success to the fact that the Cheers theme song is easy to sing along to, and goes well with the plot of the show. It also helps that the show ran for 10+ years and the song's famous refrain, "where everybody knows your name," also became the show's tagline.
In second place was the theme song from "The Dukes of Hazzard." "Just the 'Good Ole' Boys" racked up almost 25% of the vote. The memorable theme song performed by the legendary Waylon Jennings appealed to both country fans and non-country fans alike by combining a catchy melody with a southern flair and a story that tells you all about the life of those crazy Duke boys makin' their way and never meanin' no harm. Fans can celebrate the song's achievement by wearing an orange "Yeeee Haaaw! General Lee" t-shirt or a black "General Lee" t-shirt, both $20 from 80sTees.com.
"Pity the fool" who isn't aware of the third place winner. Although Hannibal Smith loves it when a plan comes together, his plan to win 1st place in this poll didn't quite work out for "The A-Team." With just over 23%, "The A-Team" theme song struck a chord with voters who had a hard time getting that catchy tune out of their head. The best way to get a song out of your head is to pass it to someone else. Order the distressed print "A-Team, Heroes for Hire" T-shirt - $22 from 80sTees.com -and people will be humming the 3rd place theme song in your wake.
The fourth place winner was a real nostalgic blast from the past - the original 1960s Batman TV series. With just over 20% of the vote, the surfer-style instrumentals paired up with the repeated cries of "Batman! (incidentally the most recorded song of 1966) has taken the last place award in 2007. Adam West himself was unavailable for comment; however Batman would like to offer a threat of "Don't Make Me go KA-POW! On You" via T-shirt, - $22 available at 80sTees.com.
The poll went on for an exhausting four rounds until the Championship Round. It did finally accomplish its original goal - determine the best TV Theme Song of all time - "Cheers," while helping us remember some of the best songs from TV ever. Honorable mentions go to "Facts of Life," "Happy Days," M*A*S*H," "Miami Vice," "Saved by the Bell," and "The Greatest American Hero."
