1st European Semantic Technology Conference (ESTC2007) Initiates a New Conference Series in Semantic Technologies in Europe

ESTC2007 is a new European meeting place for users, practitioners, developers and researchers to discuss the applicability and commercialization of semantic technologies for enterprises and public organizations. ESTC also enables delegates to understand Semantic Technologies and their potential and how to exploit these technologies in their organizations.

ESTC2007 is a new European meeting place for users, practitioners, developers and researchers to discuss the applicability and commercialization of semantic technologies for enterprises and public organizations. ESTC also enables delegates to understand Semantic Technologies and their potential and how to exploit these technologies in their organizations.

The conference will be held in Hofburg Redouten Säle, Vienna, Austria, May 31 – June 1, 2007 and will feature case study and practical experience presentations, workshops and tutorials, invited talks and an industrial exhibition.

Conference chairman Dr John Davies, Head of BT’s Next Generation Web unit, said “I am very pleased to be able to announce the initiation of this conference series. Given the increasing maturity of semantic technology, the time is right to complement more technical and academic conferences in this area with an annual European conference focusing on deployment and the commercial benefits semantic technology can deliver.”

The ESTC2007 Organization Committee invites the submission of case studies and practical experience papers and/or presentations, tutorial and workshop proposals on the development and application of Semantic Web technology, including in the following subject areas:

 
  • Industrial and governmental Deployments of Semantic Web technologies:
  • value proposition and business case, return on investment,
  • ease of adoption of technologies, gaining end-user acceptance,
  • system evaluation,
  • problems encountered in deploying semantic technology,
  • limits (and limitations) of semantic technology today,
  • dos and don’ts of applying semantic technology,
  • recognising the need – when to apply semantic technology,
  • integration with legacy systems, and so on;
  • Semantic Technology for Data and Information Integration;
  • Business Rules and Vocabularies;
  • Management of content and unstructured data in legacy systems;
  • Semantic Technology for Knowledge Management;
  • Business Process Management;
  • Ontology Engineering: knowledge acquisition, ontology creation and management (e.g. evolution, evaluation);
  • Semantic Web for e-Business, e-Health, e-Government, Multimedia, Bio-Pharmacy;
  • Semantic Interoperability in Data and Services for the Enterprise;
  • Semantic Web Services, Tools and Applications;
  • Semantic Mining for Business Intelligence;
  • Semantic Searching, Querying, Navigation and Browsing;
  • Semantic Annotation of Data, Resources and Services.
