Tulsa, Okla., (PRWEB) February 10, 2007 -- Mr. Robert N. Renkes, Executive Vice President of the Petroleum Equipment Institute, participated in a panel discussion at the Steel Tank Institute's Annual Meeting held February 2, 2007 at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort in Koloa, Hawaii. Renkes was joined on the panel by Wayne Geyer, Executive Vice President of Steel Tank Institute and Steel Plate Fabricators Association; and Brian Donovan, President of STICO Mutual Insurance Company.
The topic of discussion was The Underground Storage Tank Compliance Act of 2005 and its effect on STI members. STI attendees were particularly interested in understanding the requirements involved in mandating secondary containment to all new underground storage tank systems within 1,000 feet of any existing community water system or potable drinking water well versus the requirement of providing evidence of financial responsibility.
As a direct result of the presentation, Renkes committed PEI to initiate a 50-state survey to determine which of the two options, secondary containment or financial responsibility, the state would select and the proposed effective date of each option. The survey, when completed, will be available on PEI's web site at www.pei.org.
