Blaine: Closer Than Whistler to the Olympic Games

With all the Hoopla and marketing of the 2010 Olympics gearing up in earnest as we near the 3 year countdown in February, there is a neighboring community that is poised to capitalize on the fact that they are the closest US stop point on the way to the Gold. (PRWEB) February 12, 2007 -- With all the Hoopla and marketing of the 2010 Olympics gearing up in earnest as we near the 3 year countdown in February, there is a neighboring community that is poised to capitalize on the fact that they are the closest US stop point on the way to the Gold. Just minutes south of the Canadian border is the quaint fishing town of Blaine along with Semiahmoo Resort and Birch Bay.

The community is sharing in the excitement of the games for a reason many have overlooked. The residents of Birch Bay and Blaine will actually be closer to many of the venues than the enthusiast who chose Whistler as home base. This would include the indoor venues such as figure skating, speed skating, curling and hockey as well as the snow boarding events to be held at Cypress Bowl. Additionally, accommodations are modestly priced across the line and there are no crowds and the appeal is obvious.

In fact, local Realtor Mike Kent reports that he is receiving interest already from potential condo and home buyers who are hoping to catch the upward price movement that traditionally follows Olympic Host communities while providing accommodation for themselves during the games. In a perfect world, folks can buy a condo now, enjoy it through 2010, and then potentially sell it for enough profit to pay for the Olympic experience.

"This area started coming on the radar screen for retirees and recreational home buyers about 5 years ago. The upcoming Olympic Games has only increased interest in our waterfront location" according to Kent. "In response we have launched a website entitled 'UndiscoveredWaterfront.com' to help both Canadians and Americans discover what, up until now, has been a well kept secret - a secret that will be harder to keep as we are placed in the spotlight as a direct neighbor to Vancouver."

While many wish they had bought property in Whistler prior to winning the bid for the 2010 Olympics, some of those who missed out are picking Birch Bay, Blaine and Semiahmoo as a second chance at real estate investment success.
