Education Center Online Celebrates Black History Month - Offering Online Education for People of All Races
Online education leader EducationCenterOnline.org celebrates Black History Month, a time of reflection and renewed commitment to continue providing top-notch education options to people of all races.
(PRWEB) February 13, 2007 -- February marks the annual commemoration of Black History Month in the United States. The occasion is designed to honor the triumphs and tragedies associated with history of black Americans.
During Black History Month, one area that garners a great deal of attention centers on educational options for Black Americans. In addition, the focus is also drawn towards educational options for people who belong to other minority races as well.
The history of educational opportunities for minority groups in the U.S. is complicated. Indeed, it was not until the late-1950s that the U.S. Supreme Court, in the landmark case of Brown vs. Board of Education, declared that the concept of separate but equal in regard to public accommodations -- most particularly in schools -- was unconstitutional. From that point forward the educational options and opportunities available to black Americans and other minorities in the country began to expand and develop.
In recent times, a growing number of black Americans and other minorities have been able to access beneficial educational opportunities through online education and online degree programs. In this regard, EducationCenterOnline.org has been on the forefront of assisting Americans from all backgrounds, including black American and other minority groups in the country, in accessing different online education and online degree programs.
"At EducationCenterOnline.org, we've been able to help people of all races, from all walks of life, find precisely the kind of online education and online degree options that work best for them," explained Sharon Odom, President and CEO of EducationCenterOnline.org.
Odom explained that through EducationCenterOnline.org a person interested in advancing his or her education through an online education or online degree program can select from over 1,100 different institutions of higher learning that offer these types of educational opportunities. "We've been able to provide helpful assistance to millions of students of all races who are looking to better their lives, and the lives of their families, through an online education and online degree program," Odom explained.
EducationCenterOnline.org does recognize that there remains a gap between the percentage of white students and the percentage of minority students who utilize the Internet for educational purposes, including for an online education or online degree program.
Last year, U.S.A. Today reported that while 54% of white students used the Internet at home in their studies, only 26% of Hispanic and 27% of black students used the Internet at home to further their studies.
"At EducationCenterOnline.org we understand the disparity in Internet use and education. For this reason, we make a concerted effort to ensure that people of all racial heritages are able to access the very best online degrees, campus-based schools and online degree programs through the services that we offer through EducationCenterOnline.org," Odom explained.
Since 2004, EducationCenterOnline.org has provided online access to information about online degree programs, professional certificates and campus-based programs to millions of potential students. www.EducationCenterOnline.org strives to provide accurate information on accredited online colleges, trade schools and distance learning programs.
