New York Infidelity Expert Spearheads Successful Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign
Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign generates widespread media coverage of a seldom-discussed side of Valentine's Day.
(PRWEB) February 13, 2007 -- Cheating spouses annoyed by the preponderance of articles and newscasts about infidelity and Valentine's Day have infidelity expert Ruth Houston to blame.
Houston, the New York-based founder of InfidelityAdvice.com and author of Is He Cheating on You? - 829 Telltale Signs, has single-handedly spearheaded a campaign to heighten public awareness of Valentine's Day, infidelity, and extramarital affairs. The campaign is now in it's 4th year.
Infidelity Peaks on Valentine Day
Says Houston, "Most people are unaware of the link between infidelity and Valentine's Day. Everybody tends to think of Valentine's Day as the most romantic day of the year. That's not the case if the romance is happening between your partner and someone else. Infidelity doesn't take a back seat on Valentine's Day. In fact, it's the time when infidelity and extramarital affairs reach their peak. Cheaters everywhere will either be buying or receiving Valentine's Day gifts. And it's the perfect time to catch a cheating mate."
A Seldom-Discussed Side of Valentine's Day
"This is the side of Valentine's Day no one talks about," says Houston. "Even though it's an issue that affects millions of Americans everywhere. Based on current statistics, between 50% and 70% of Americans are victims of infidelity. If you factor in emotional infidelity, cyber infidelity, same-sex infidelity and the growing number of men who are victims of female infidelity, you're now looking at close to 85%. Many of these infidelity victims have no idea their partner is having an affair. Others who suspect infidelity have been frustrates in their attempts to get proof. They can both benefit from knowing about the link between infidelity and Valentine's Day."
Incriminating Valentine's Day Gifts
The National Retail Federation reports that Americans spend roughly $13 billion each year on Valentine's gifts. Houston points out that a significant portion of that money is spent by cheaters buying gifts for their secret lovers. There are two ways these gifts could prove to be the cheater's undoing:
| | - Whether the gift is paid for by cash, check or credit card, there's usually a paper trail.
- Most of these gifts will be delivered in person -- if not on Valentine's Day, then the day before or the day after.
|
Houston says, "Infidelity victims can use this information to their advantage. It's far easier to catch a cheater around Valentine's Day. Any private investigator who specializes in infidelity investigations will tell you this is their busiest time of the year."
How the Awareness Campaign Started
The Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign got its start 4 years ago. During the course of her ongoing infidelity research, Houston discovered that very little had been written about Valentine's Day infidelity.
Houston, a journalist herself, with a background in public relations, approached the media with this idea: "Instead of your usual Valentine's Day coverage of what gifts to buy and romantic things to do, why not do a story, or at least a sidebar about "the Other Side of Valentine's Day" -- the side no one talks about? The 50% to 70% of your readers, listeners, or viewers who are victims of infidelity will appreciate this information."
The Campaign Gathers Momentum
Houston's Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness campaign gathers momentum with each passing year. Last year's campaign resulted in media coverage as far away as South Africa, Bahrain, Turkey, India, France, China, Qatar, Viet Nam, Beirut, Pakistan, Canada, and the United Kingdom, in addition to all across the United States.
A New Theme Each Year
Each year Houston chooses a different theme for the Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign. Since the workplace now ties with the internet as the #1 place where cheaters find partners for their extramarital affairs, the 2007 theme is "Valentine's Day Signs of a Workplace Affair." Says Houston, "This theme is especially appropriate considering the recent public apology from San Francisco Mayor Newsom for his affair with his campaign manager's wife, and the news stories about NASA astronaut Lisa Norwak's arrest."
Previous year's themes include:
| | - Is Your Valentine the Cheating Kind? (2004) - Houston designed a 7-question quiz so women could rate their mate by his background, history, and character traits to see if they were married to, or dating a potential cheater.
|
| | - How Valentine's Day Gifts Can Expose a Cheating Husband (2005) - Houston discussed how cheating husbands can be exposed by the Valentine's Day gifts they give.
|
| | - Valentine's Day is the Best Time to Catch a Cheating Mate ( 2006) - the theme which generated the most extensive coverage thus far. Houston revealed how and where to find proof of infidelity on the most romantic day of the year.

Balanced Coverage of Valentine's Day
This year, as in years past, Houston blanketed wire services and major media with news releases and story ideas related to the 4th Annual Valentine's Day Infidelity Awareness Campaign. The result has been much more balanced coverage of the Valentine's Day / infidelity connection by print, broadcast, and online media. But Houston says, "With so many infidelity victims out there, there is still a lot more coverage to be had. They can still write, talk or blog about the signs of infidelity that typically appear AFTER Valentine's Day. It would be great to see at least one media outlet in every city and town strike fear in the hearts of the millions of cheating spouses and significant others everywhere. Having been an infidelity victim myself 14 years ago, I'd like to see all those cheaters out there become very, very afraid."
