Taters and Tall Tales for Idaho Tots

Idaho author Elaine Ambrose Romano will participate in the Jerome Centennial Family Night on March 9. Romano will read from her award-winning children's book, Gators & Taters, and tell humorous stories of her childhood on a southern Idaho potato farm.

Jerome, ID (PRWEB) February 18, 2007 -- Idaho author Elaine Ambrose Romano will participate in the Jerome Centennial Family Night on March 9. Romano will read from her award-winning children's book, Gators & Taters and tell humorous stories of her childhood on a southern Idaho potato farm.

"I'll dig into my farm girl past to harvest some steamy potato stories," said Romano. "And I'll bring my burlap bag of tall tales and 'tater tunes to delight the tots."

As a girl, Romano worked in her parent's potato fields near Wendell, located just 10 miles from Jerome. She used the time to imagine stories and grand adventures that she later included in her children's books. Gators & Taters was selected as "Best New Children's Book of 2003" by Farmer's Market Online and was selected for two statewide reading lists. Her second children's book, The Magic Potato - La Papa Mágica, is a bilingual story and coloring book. The Idaho State Board of Education adopted the book for the statewide school curriculum.

The Jerome Chamber of Commerce and the Jerome Public Library are sponsoring the family event to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Jerome's founding. Festivities begin with a potato bar at 6:00 p.m. at the library. Children will participate in skits, games, and storytelling.

Romano is the author of more than 100 magazine articles and four books, and she is the co-owner of Mill Park Publishing in Eagle. The company will donate 100 copies of The Magic Potato for the Jerome Public Library to give in future events for children.
