Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 2, 2007
Wessel & Lieberman Booksellers is pleased to announce an exhibition of the book-design work of John D. Berry. The exhibition will run through the end of April. A reading and book launch, open to the public, is on Thursday, March 22, from 6-8pm for his two new books, Dot-font: Talking About Design and Dot-font: Talking About Fonts (Mark Batty Publisher, 2007).
John Berry is an editor and typographer, widely known for his book designs. He uses modern digital tools to create classic effects, whether the book is a volume of fiction or poetry, an art book or a complex visual project. He was house designer for Copper Canyon Press in the early 1990s, and more recently has both edited and designed several books for Mark Batty Publisher, including U&lc: influencing design & typography. His designs, whether on paper or on screen, have always been concerned first and foremost with inviting the reader into the text, making the experience of reading transparent and natural.
John Berry is also one of the foremost writers on typography and design active today. His first two Dot-font books are selections from the essays he has been writing for the last seven years in his "dot-font" column for Creativepro.com. In these direct, colloquial essays, he turns a critical eye on the role of design in our everyday lives.
John D. Berry is the former editor of U&lc (Upper & lower case,) and he edited the landmark volume Language Culture Type: international type design in the age of Unicode (ATypI/Graphis, 2002). He has made a career for more than twenty-five years in Seattle, New York, and San Francisco as an editor and book designer.
