Eid Passport®, Inc., a leading provider of identity and access management programs, announces the appointment of Tom Ridge to its board of directors. The nation's first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and former governor of Pennsylvania will serve on the Eid Passport board along with B.G. "Buddy" Beck, Admiral Thomas H. Collins, General Ralph E. "Ed" Eberhart, Raymond Humphrey, Sean Sullivan, and Eid Passport Chairman and CEO Steve Larson.
"It is a rare privilege for an emerging company like Eid Passport to welcome someone of Tom Ridge's stature to our board," said Larson. "He brings unsurpassed knowledge of homeland security issues as well as the needs and opportunities within U.S. critical infrastructure industries."
Sworn in as the first Assistant to the President for Homeland Security on October 8, 2001, Tom Ridge was appointed the nation's first secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and served until February of 2005. In that position, he oversaw 180,000 personnel and the blending of 22 federal agencies into a new Cabinet department. Ridge also served two terms as governor of Pennsylvania from 1995-2001. He was elected to Congress in 1982 - the first enlisted Vietnam combat veteran elected to the U.S. House - and was overwhelmingly re-elected five times.
Ridge earned a scholarship to Harvard University, graduating with honors in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as an infantry staff sergeant in Vietnam, earning the Bronze Star for Valor. Upon his return, he earned his law degree and was in private practice before becoming assistant district attorney of Erie County, Pennsylvania in 1980. He currently consults on a variety of national and international issues.
