Printing and Marketing Firm Celebrates 25-Years Serving Customers

After 25 years as a franchisee in the Portland, Oregon area, ePrint recently became an independent printing and marketing firm. This new status allows the company to offer a wider array of services for current and future customers.

ePrint, a Tigard-based printing and marketing firm, announced recently the completion of its 25-year contract as a franchisee. Previously part of the Kwik Kopy Printing family, ePrint now operates as an independent, and offers a wider array of services for clients.

"In 1982, my wife and I took all our money plus some equity in our home purchased with the GI Bill, and sunk it into a dream," said Brian O'Day, president of ePrint. "I'd been laid off twice, and we were determined never to be in that position again. In the early days, there were the two of us and a press operator, and everything we did was black ink. Fast forward, and today we have 20 employees and specialize in full color work. It's been a great ride."

O'Day, past chairman of the National Association of Quick Printers (NAQP), has a broad perspective on the industry. He's seen competitors come and go, many unable to adapt to ever-changing technology. "I read an article recently about a failing print shop, and the owners were bemoaning 'the good old days,'" said O'Day. "They spoke as if printing is dead. I disagree. We've evolved into fully digital businesses, yet our role remains to help our customers communicate with their customers."

Last year, sales at ePrint were up nearly 20%, and O'Day credits his firm's solid growth to a strong commitment to customer service. While the industry begins focusing on providing more than printing, O'Day said that approach started at ePrint many years ago.

"We were consulting with customers two decades ago," said O'Day. "By partnering in the planning stage, we better understand their objectives, and provide 'concept to completion' services that include graphic design, digital color printing, variable data and mailing."

O'Day, a Vietnam veteran, believes the key to their success is the tenure of ePrint employees. "Our average team member has been with us a decade," he said. "Clients value working with the same professionals, and our employees know they have an impact on our customers' business results. That's why they stay here, to make a difference."
