Continuous Child Tracking System Launches into the UK
GPS tracking system for children. A unique and affordable system to continuously track a child's exact location has this week been launched by Blue Tree Services into the UK market place. OurKids™ was developed in response to the needs of parents, who want to allow their children the freedoms they themselves had in childhood, but also want the reassurance that their children are safe. OurKids™ allows them to constantly review the location and wellbeing of their child, and be alerted if something is wrong.
(PRWEB) March 5, 2007 -- A unique and affordable system to continuously track a child's exact location has this week been launched by Blue Tree Services into the UK market place. OurKids™ was developed in response to the needs of parents, who want to allow their children the freedoms they themselves had in childhood, but also want the reassurance that their children are safe. OurKids™ allows them to constantly review the location and wellbeing of their child, and be alerted if something is wrong.
Each child being monitored wears a unit which allows the parent to place their child's position on a personalised mapping system. This can be performed either through a secure site on the internet or through a mobile PDA device. The mobile device shows its own location as well as that of the monitored units, making it easier to find someone on the move. The internet based application is designed to make it easy to track large numbers of children simultaneously.
OurKids™ incorporates an alarm for emergencies which allows the child to alert parents if they are in trouble. The unit has movement sensors that can detect whether the unit is being worn or if it has been subject to a shock such as a fall. It alerts the parents if the battery is running low by a battery charge warning light on the unit itself and also via a message to the parent's home computer.
OurKids™ use of "geo fences" is perhaps one if the most innovative features of the system. Parents are able to set up boundaries through GPS mapping which enables them to be alerted if their child moves beyond a predetermined area.
Although it has been possible for people to carry alarms for some time, these alarms were either linked to a physical location or allowed for only single location requests. With OurKids™, continuous tracking avoids the problems associated with not having a "position fix" at critical moments - there is always a "breadcrumb trail".

Key features include:
- An alarm button - for emergencies
- A movement sensor - shows the parents if the unit is being worn.
- A power sensor - checking the power and alerts the parent if the unit is running low.
- Boundary alerts - allowing the child freedom to move within a designated area.
- Group monitoring - enabling parents to use their time more efficiently
OurKids™ portable units use GPS and the Cell phone network to send positioning information to secure servers, these are then able to relay information back to the license holder showing the location of the units anywhere in the UK or Europe.
The units are designed to maintain a fixed cost for data transmission, allowing the operators of the unit to be able to budget efficiently. Units are also able to prolong their battery life by reducing the amount of charge used when the battery power falls below a certain threshold.
A school version is also being launched in 2007 and has added features for institutions such as:
- Instant Register - giving teachers the ability to know who is missing from the school
- Activity and other reporting
A medical version designed to transmit personal medical information as well as location and activity will be available from March 2007. Various sensors are being tested; however those most in demand are for heart monitoring and blood sugar level checks.
