Staff Management, a leading provider of vendor-on-premise staffing and management solutions, has been selected as a charter member of a new, voluntary U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) program designed to improve legal workforce compliance.

The staffing firm was chosen from 300 candidates to be one of nine charter members to the ICE Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers program (IMAGE). IMAGE partnerships promote the use of tools, best practices, and continuing education to ensure the hiring of a legal workforce.

As the only staffing company among the nine-member group, Staff Management has a unique opportunity to influence the development of hiring standards that may guide the entire staffing industry, notes Chief Operating Officer Joan Davison.

Under the program, ICE will share information with employers on the latest illegal schemes used to circumvent legal hiring processes. Just last Friday, the agency arraigned three officials at a nationwide janitorial service on federal fraud and tax charges after an investigation of cleaning crews at a Michigan resort. More than 200 illegal immigrants were arrested and will be deported.

Initiated by The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in July 2006, the program provides a self-assessment of hiring practices and helps uncover vulnerabilities to illegal activity related to immigration status. Technical tools to verify Social Security Numbers for W-2 purposes are integrated with best practices, assuring that Staff Management’s employees are legally eligible for employment.

ICE will also provide training and education to IMAGE partners on proper hiring procedures, fraudulent document detection and anti-discrimination laws.
